What exactly is the bubble
The bubble is the moment when just 1 or 2 players more than the number of paid places are left. If the tournament pays the top 50, the bubble sits between 51st and 53rd place. Every elimination on the way down to 50th place is a pure loss: you play 4 hours for 0 euros.
At that precise moment, the pressure peaks. Short stacks in danger of elimination panic. Chipleaders turn tyrannical knowing nobody wants to take a risk. Medium stacks are stuck in the middle: not short enough to be desperate, not big enough to attack with impunity.
Understanding how to navigate this moment is what separates a 5% ROI player from a 25% ROI player. Most of the mistakes happen here, over just 5 to 10 hands.
